LDF/MDF (Light/Medium Density Fiberboard)

  • Lightweight and Papery
  • Shallow arc (cove) with less dramatic corners
  • Distressed edge when crosscut
  • Primed on front only (back is raw)
  • Low quality finish (abrasions incurred during wipedown)
  • Very susceptible to movement with little or no humidity
  • Urgency to paint post-install

 

HDF (High Density Fiberboard)

  • Heavier and much more dense
  • Very deep arc (cove) resulting in much more dramatic corners
  • Razor sharp edge when crosscut
  • Primed front and back
  • High quality finish (abrasion resistant during wipedown)
  • Less susceptible to movement with little or no humidity
  • No urgency to paint post-install
  • Very clean, white and livable look
